Bowen Therapy

What is Bowen therapy?

Bowen therapy is a gentle soft tissue therapeutic technique that is holistic – it works at all levels of the body; physically, spiritually and emotionally. Bowen taps into the body’s own innate healing ability, and the work itself generates an integrated healing response through a series of gentle rolling type moves working primarily on the fascia and connective tissues.

Bowen is a gentle therapy. There are no forced manipulations and it is suitable for all ages from newborns to the elderly.

What can Bowen help with?

Bowen can help with a huge number of problems, including:

  • Headache/migraine
  • Neck pain/whiplash
  • Back pain
  • Shoulder problems e.g. frozen shoulder
  • Tennis elbow
  • Knee pain
  • Sciatica
  • Respiratory problems
  • Digestive conditions
  • Menstrual problems
  • Carpal tunnel

What happens in a treatment?

You will be asked to complete a detailed questionnaire about yourself and your health concerns so that we can determine the best course of treatment.

In Bowen treatment, the therapist is acting as a facilitator in a dialogue with the body, providing the body with information through small and gentle movements over muscle and tendon fibres, and the underlying fascia. The body will then prioritise its own healing.

Important information

On the day of the treatment, be sure to drink plenty of water.

Whilst undergoing Bowen therapy, other forms of hands-on therapy should not be taken; it is suggested that clients allow a gap of at least one week from their last Bowen treatment before engaging in other therapies.
